Where the data comes from
Sources, coverage, freshness, and which fields are AI-written.
Sources
CompanySpec combines two sources:
- Company websites. We crawl each company's website, classify its pages (pricing, legal, careers and
more) and summarise them. This is where the ICP, pricing summary, page summaries,
compliance claims, subprocessors (
vendors) and website technologies come from. - Our own company data. Firmographics (industry, size, revenue, locations), headcount by department, recent hires, funding, news and job postings.
Coverage
About 20 million companies, with website page summaries for more than 5 million of them. Not every company has every field or page; see Unavailable data.
Freshness
Data is refreshed periodically.
- Recent hires usually appear 1–3 weeks after their start date.
- Headcount history covers the last 12 months.
- Job postings stay available after they close, with
closed_onset. - Technologies show when each was first seen and, if removed, when.
- News events have a
dateand aurlto the source.
AI-written fields
These are written by an AI model from the company's own website, so treat them as summaries, not quotes:
| Field | Written from |
|---|---|
icp | Their website: what they provide, the problem they solve, who their customers likely are |
pricing | Their pricing page |
Page summaries (/pages/{page_type}) | That page; the response includes the page URL so you can check it |
match.reason in search | The company's ICP compared with your semantic_query |
explanation on technologies | What we detected and where |
Everything else is structured data.
